Barbara Kemper-Nolan

6th Grade

My name is Barbara Kemper-Nolan (but I go by Mrs. Nolan at school). This is my fourth year teaching at Northwood Hills. I thoroughly enjoyed teaching many of your children in 2nd Grade for the first two years I was at NHE. Last year, I switched to teaching 6th grade. Before I came to NHE, I worked for seven years at a 6th Grade Center in South Texas. So, while I loved teaching 2nd Grade, when NHE needed a 6th Grade teacher, I was happy to move back up!

Three years ago, my family moved to Dallas from the San Antonio area, when my husband accepted a position with a Dallas engineering firm. We love it here! My daughter, Jenna, is a recent graduate of Richardson High School. She has just begun her sophomore year at UT Dallas, where she is majoring in Art and Technology (primarily digital graphics and animation).

Before I was a teacher, I worked for many years as a counselor. I enjoyed my work very much. However, when my daughter started school, I began volunteering on her campus and teaching Sunday school. It was then that I realized how much I love teaching! When she got older, I began working with students with behavior problems in school, while I took classes to become certified in teaching. I am currently certified in all subjects in PreK - 8th grade, as well as all subjects in Special Education, PreK-12th grade.

I feel very blessed to be part of the Northwood Hills family. Everyone has been very welcoming and helpful. I have particularly enjoyed teaching such eager students who love learning!

I believe all of us are life-long learners. This summer, I began working on my Master's Degree in Library Science, with the goal of eventually becoming a campus librarian.

Thanks to all of you - students, parents, and staff - for creating such an exceptional learning environment at Northwood Hills! I know we will have a wonderful year together!
