Northwood Hills Elementary School

Mackie Kazdoy, principal

Remember!  Friday, February 12 is a student holiday.
Teachers will be in staff development all day.

Tuesday, February 9 (tonight!) and tomorrow, Wednesday, February 10 are NHE days at Dos Rios.  Eat there for lunch or dinner, say you are with Northwood Hills Elementary School and earn 15% for the school!

NHE HAS THE BEST DADs!!!
Thank you to all the Dads that cooked, flipped, served and cleaned at our awesome annual Dad's Pancake Supper. Special thanks to Chris Rodgers (Beau and Gray's dad) for once again heading up this favorite event. We also want to thank Kel's Kitchen, http://www.kelshomecooking.com/, who for the 2nd year, donated the sausage to NHE. Please stop in soon and show them our appreciation. They're a great community partner! The nearest location is at Coit/Arapaho in Richardson.

Congratulations to Ms. Lewis’ 1st graders! They have won the pizza party for donating the most books to the RISD Used Book Fair with a total of 339 books! Our whole school collected 1256 used books, DVDs and CDs. The sale is going on this week, Feb. 11 – 14, at Valley View Mall. Money raised benefits the J.J. Pearce Memorial Scholarship Fund and RISD PTA’s.

Thank you to our PTA for the terrific program “Blue Shoes Across America”. Ask your child what they learned about the blues yesterday!

Thank you for all the generous donations to help out the Nguyen family with all of their hospital expenses! I am excited to report that Jordan’s account has now reached $6,110.31 ! I’m so grateful to be part of the NHE family! It’s not too late! You may still donate by depositing a check or cash to the account for Jordan M. Nguyen. Join the “Friends of Jordan Nguyen” Facebook group for updates.

Please encourage your child to participate in the Six Flags Read to Succeed program. There was a flyer in your Tuesday folder to use as a reading log. Any child who reads for a total of 6 hours (360 minutes) will receive a free ticket to Six Flags that can be used this summer. They can read books, magazines, newspapers, comic books -- anything they read outside of school. If they read for their classroom reading log, they can count those minutes. If they read for AR, they can count those minutes. You will need to sign their log and make sure it gets returned to their teacher by the deadline: February 25th. If you have any questions, you can contact Ms. Edwards, our librarian.

There’s still room in our program!!
We have 2 new specialized activities:

  1. Trivia (History, Geography, Culture, US Presidents and States)

  2. Writing our own fairy tales and fables to make them into plays during the next 6 weeks.

As always, we have homework time and educational centers.
If you have any questions, please call Jennifer McEvoy at 469.593.4256.
